High contrast and low-key
The preparation for a small exhibition of my work for EFM 2026 made me realise how my online activities and work have slowly changed over time. This is partially a normal process for a photographer that wants to evolve. Over time you learn from what you do, you slowly change, find and perfect your creative style. Many photographers are recognised by it, and are sometimes even copied. But the change in style can also have different reasons, and I will explain the biggest one later.
'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.'
When I started sharing my images back in 2015, they were mostly high-contrast or low-key photos. It was a style that I found intriguing myself, and latex is the perfect material for it. Quite often I would create images in a teasing or suggestive way. See it as telling a story without showing it. By leaving out the things that are actually going on, you challenge people to use their imagination. Without showing things directly, the power of suggestion comes into action, and your brain does the rest.
Low Key
My very first post on social media on March 1st in 2015, under a different name back then, was a low-key gas mask image. It was the start of a new adventure in life, triggered by the sudden passing of a beloved one. Despite the love and hate connection with Instagram over the years, which made me delete 95% of my content, I kept this post on my profile for memory’s sake. Especially in the first years of my online presence, I’ve posted a lot of low-key images. They are so different from high contrast but they are just as interesting in a different way.
Having a studio at home is fantastic, and it makes it easy to just put on some latex and do a shoot. Either being in the mood for it and spending a few hours or just having a short break from the daily activities. With everything being there and ready, it didn’t matter; any moment was the right moment. My profession allowed me to work from home a lot. So there was always an opportunity to escape daily life.
High-Contrast
As my wardrobe was nearly all fetish black, the choice for a white backdrop quickly came to mind. The high-contrast images simply have something that draws your attention to them. It almost looks black and white, but it isn’t. It sure made a great combo for some more detailed images and close-ups. Something that makes interesting visuals.
Over time, IG got more ‘aggressive’ towards our community, and Meta made me delete more and more of the older images that I’ve posted over the years. Totally understand that certain content is not appropriate, but I choose not to share nudity and have never done so. What I share is creative art, covered in shiny latex. But to each their own, I guess.
After IG deleted the 11th account of my partner, I went into hibernation mode and deleted 95% of my profile. Leaving a collection of images that are an homage to our love for each other. Because in the end, IG has brought us together. And when Fetish Erotica moved in, my studio turned into a home cinema. So we no longer have a photo studio at our disposal, which is something you can see in the content I’ve created in recent years. You change, you evolve, but we won’t stop creating.
